Hofstra Club Basketball withdraws from ABA Sports of Long Island Competitive League; rejoins Island Garden

After three consecutive weeks of postponing their season opener, ABA Sports of Long Island lost one the teams in the competitive league - Hofstra Club Basketball. The team withdrew from the league on Wednesday after weeks of delays due to issues with the Lion's Den facility.
Hofstra Club Basketball will instead play in the Fall 2010 Island Garden AAU Adult Competitive League, a year removed from going 12-8 overall and winning a championship at the facility. Games will be played once a week at 9:30 PM.

Fall 2010 weekend game schedule released

Hofstra Club Basketball officially released the complete weekend game schedule for Fall 2010. The team will face four varsity programs (Berkeley College - NY, Hostos Community College, Cooper Union and Pratt Institute), play three double-headers on the road and host two home games on-campus (at the Physical Education Building) for the first time since November 2008. Also, Hofstra Club Basketball will face the Christian Cultural Center as part of a double-header with the New York Wizards of the Eastern Basketball Alliance (link: http://newyorkwizards.com) at Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park, NY. In addition to all those games, Hofstra Club Basketball will play in the ABA Sports of Long Island Competitive League on weekday evenings. The team already has one weekend game scheduled for Spring 2011 (@ Rockland Community College on Saturday, February 5th) and intends to compete in the Boston University NCCS Regional Basketball Championships for the third consecutive year.

  • Saturday, October 9th, 2010 @ Sacred Heart University (4 PM, double-header with Adelphi and Sacred Heart)
  • Saturday, October 16th, 2010 @ Vincent Robinson Basketball Academy (3 PM)
  • Sunday, October 17th, 2010 @ Adelphi University (1 PM, double-header with TBD and Adelphi)
  • Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 vs. Iona College (8:30 PM) @ Physical Education Building
  • Saturday, October 30th, 2010 vs. Berkeley College - NY (3 PM) @ FST Gym
  • Saturday, November 6th, 2010 vs. Hostos Community College (8:30 PM) @ Physical Education Building
  • Saturday, November 13th, 2010 @ Cooper Union (2 PM)
  • Saturday, November 20th, 2010 @ Pratt Institute (5 PM)

Hofstra Club Basketball adds 7 new members, announces 2010-2011 roster

After evaluating 20 players at a tryout on September 19th, Hofstra Club Basketball made some difficult decisions and announced their 2010-2011 roster. Seven new players, who were selected at the tryout, will join nine returning members. The team will be coached by Rebecca Levy, Aaron Drahushuk and Therron Scott (who will also play for the team).

Hofstra Club Basketball to play in ABA Sports of Long Island Competitive League

Hofstra Club Basketball will compete in the ABA Sports of Long Island Competitive League in Fall 2010. The first game is tentatively scheduled for the week of September 29th. The season will consist of 8 regular season games, all played at the Lion's Den (91 New York Avenue, Westbury, NY, 11590). The top four teams in each division (recreational and competitive) will advance to the playoffs. Division champions will receive a 4-foot championship trophy and championship t-shirts. An MVP trophy will also be presented.

In 2009-2010, Hofstra Club Basketball competed at Island Garden finishing with a 12-9 overall record and winning the Fall 2009 AAU Adult Recreational League Championship.

Hofstra Club Basketball to host tryout on Sunday, September 19th

On Sunday, September 19th at 3 PM, Hofstra Club Basketball will host a tryout as the team prepares to embark on their third academic year of operation. The tryout will take place at Fundamental Sports Training 575 Merrick Avenue, Westbury, NY, 11590. Transportation will be made available if necessary.
