Team founder, Max Margulis, resigns

Hofstra Club Basketball founder and current general manager, Max Margulis, has resigned. The team E-Board cabinet and roster will remain intact and left to handle the responsibilities formerly taken care of by the outgoing general manager.

Margulis founded Hofstra Club Basketball in Spring 2008 and the team played their first game in October of that year. During his tenure, Margulis served as Head Coach, President and Chief of Basketball Operations with responsibilities that included handling the finances, scheduling games, recruiting players and making sure the team complied with all rules and regulations. During their inaugural season, Hofstra Club Basketball finished 11-18, winning the "Northeast Pool" in the 2009 Boston University NCCS Regional Tournament where they finished 3-1.
The following year, Hofstra improved to 20-20 overall. They won the Fall 2009 Island Garden AAU Adult Recreational League Championship and reached the 2010 Boston University NCCS Regional Semi-Finals with a 5-1 record in the tournament.
As head coach of Hofstra Club Basketball, Margulis put together an overall regular season record of 31-38 with 8 of those wins and only 2 losses coming in the Boston University NCCS Regional Tournament where the team finished undefeated (6-0) in pool play for two consecutive years.
With graduation approaching, Margulis took it upon himself to find someone who would replace him as Head Coach and Chief of Basketball Operations. In May 2010 he hired Rebecca Levy to take over in that role. In August 2010, Margulis decided to continue working for Hofstra Club Basketball as the general manager. The Fall 2010 semester was difficult for the team as they finished 5-14. Margulis, serving in a reduced role as general manager, only attended the tryout and two games during the semester.

Margulis has an overall coaching record of 63-50 including a 32-12 mark in charge of intramural teams at Hofstra and in various adult recreational leagues. This includes the Fall 2008 Hofstra University Intramural 5v5 Basketball and the Summer 2009 92nd Street Y B-Division Championships.

Max Margulis intends to continue supporting Hofstra Club Basketball and remain involved with basketball in various New York City recreational leagues.
